R.I. P. Webmonkey
When I first got interested in web design, back in the days of a swift 36.6k modem & AOL dialup, I needed a resource to help me figure it all out. It was back in those days when those who didn't know what was going on created images with MSPaint, which at the time only supported .BMP files. DOCTYPE? HAH, you should be glad we found out what a <p> tag was for! (And that you needed a </p> tag too!)
Try as I might, I wasn't getting the hang of it. That's when I found Webmonkey .
Webmonkey was perfect. I loved the snarky comments and the great design tips. Webmonkey was there when I need to learn frames, then told me why I should get rid of them, explained CSS, and even got me started with PHP.
I'm going to miss such a cool resource, and I feel sorry for everyone who's trying to learn HTML & Design now without it.
I guess it's going to be just another one of those Ghost Sites.
dammit
I lost the new domain I wanted. By just a few minutes. ARGH!

Next on Food Network: Warmed Over Death
God I feel horrible. I think Jen (Not Jenn) gave me the flu. She's in three of my classes, but I rarely see her... she's been sick all semester. But it may not have been the flu. It may have been something I ate. Or the fact that I'm not sleeping, I'm spending all my time working on various projects, going to school, working on the paper, and not eating.
It's one of those.

Worst. Typo. Evar.
Mar 7 - COCC Soccer Opening Game.
First off, our school name is abbreviated CPCC.
Secondly, I had to make THAT spelling error in front of the name of the only sport where you can't touch balls with your hands.
I could work for Microsoft!

Share & Share Alike
I hate essay questions.
What to you plan to share with your fellow students on you college campus as a result of participating in the SLI?
...
I have no idea what I'd share. I just know I'd want to wash it when I got it back.

I know this is of absolutly no importance to anyone... but I can't find my camera. That friggin' sucks.
I think the last time it was used was when it was snowing.

Leaders
I've been nominated by my school to represent them in the The North Carolina Community College Student Leadership Institute. (Boy is that a mouthful)
I have to submit an application in order to be selected. I've included it here, please leave a comment and let me know what you think!
Leadership is a skill that many hope they possess, most look for in others, and all can benefit from. It is a skill I feel that I possess, but like any other skill, it works best when it is used and when it is trained. My name is Robert Mungo and I believe that I would make a great addition to the 2004-2005 North Carolina Community College Student Leadership Institute.
I am a 25 year old student at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. I am majoring in Internet Technologies and I plan to become involved in the web design field. Since I started at CPCC in the fall of 2003, I have served as the Web Editor for Spark, CPCC’s student newspaper. This semester I was selected to become the Editor-in-Chief of Spark.
Serving as the Editor-In-Chief of a monthly student publication has proven to be an interesting and awarding experience. I have learned a lot about myself and my fellow students. I deal with many of the paper’s staff members, other students, faculty, and college staff on a daily basis. The mix of personalities can seem overwhelming at first. I have come to learn that to be a successful leader you must learn to not only deal with different personalities, but combine them in ways to achieve a better end result.
In my work and college experience, I have often been placed in positions of responsibility and authority. This is because I like to see projects through to their completion and work hard to keep the peace among my coworkers and teammates. Many of my past and present colleagues and friends would say that I do not lead a team as much as rally them to a cause. I have learned that for a lot of people I have dealt with that it doesn’t work to simply tell them what to do. You must treat them as the intelligent person they are. You should explain why things must be done in a certain fashion and how things work.
As you may have realized from my age, I am not a traditional student. In the fall of 2002 I made a decision that would affect the rest of my life. I had spent several years moving from job to job, looking for the perfect fit. It was extremely hard to find that fit because I lacked a high school diploma, having dropped out of school in the 11th Grade. I knew that to succeed in the long run, I need to have a diploma or equivalent. I worked hard to complete the tests required to receive a GED and I achieved that goal in February 2003.
Because of this, I bring real world experience to the mix. I have worked in professional and retail environments and have dealt with groups made up of widely diverse skills and personalities.
If I am chosen to represent CPCC at this year’s NCCC-SLI, I will bring experience and my drive to the mix. I have learned to work with many different personalities and cultures through out the years and I believe this will make me an excellent choice.
Thank you for your consideration.

What Internet Personality Are You?

You are a Coder and/or HTML Guru. People come to you with their computer problems, and it either makes you happy or pisses you the fuck off. Which I don't blame you. You sometimes feel like you're being used, and maybe you are. Chose your friends wisely and keep making those beautiful sites/programs.

Microsoft Frontpage 'Clean Code' Ad contains errors.
Well, it looks like Microsoft Frontpage 2003 is being hawked on websites right and left. They're so proud that they've cleaned up the code and made it closer to actual HTML standards.
Except they don't actually use clean HTML in their ads. (via Kottke)
Fluffy found another one. The <b> tag is no longer considered appropriate in XHTML, since bold means nothing to a text reader. Use <strong> instead.

Happy Valentine's Day
I'm still working on the rebuilding of Malbela. It's February, so just like last year, I had to have a major meltdown involving the website.
Jan-Mar of 2003 are up, but I lost Jan & Feb of 2004. Hope I didn't say anything important.
Anyway, lots to do this weekend. I'll be back later. Happy Feast of Lupercalus. May the person dressed as a goat beat you with the whip just hard enough.
