I saw you crying... I saw you crying...

Dammit, I hate it that dance-y pop music makes me work faster. Right now it is all about Alcazar and 'Crying At The Discotheque', the only song ever written that references Richard Gere.

But whatever helps me finish this site!

Dear Doctor...

Dear Dr. Atkins,

Pray for us sinners in our hour of need and forgive me for I am about to sin. And really bad too.

There's a cheesecake in the fridge and I am not strong.

Matt has a posse blog

Finally, after many moons of work, Matt's blog has really & truly launched over at his site. Of course, it's with the default Movable Type templates instead of the really cool template I did for him almost two months ago.

All things in time, my friends. All things in time.

Over at Matt's site, you'll need to have a TypeKey account. You'll need one here soon as well. Malbela will start using Typekey in the next few weeks.

TypeKey is a system from SixApart (makers of Movable Type), set up to protect bloggers from all that comment spam. If you're not a blogger yourself, you may not realize that your friendly neighborhood pseudo-journalist probably deletes several hundred spam comments every week, or every day if they've become popular. We've all gotten tired of the poker & porn ads that our blogs could easily become. So, help us by setting up a typekey account so you can post to blogs. They're private, the only thing that the blogger you're commenting to will see is that you're in fact a real person and not a machine with a vendetta. Bloggers have to option to set it up so they require they be able to see your email address before you comment. You have a chance to opt in or out of sending the info though.

Hey, I'm not telling you to do something that I wouldn't do myself.

Well, I don't know what I was waiting for, Gwen... but this wasn't it.

Gwen Stefani's new album is asstastic.

I can only assume that she intentionally set out to make a horrible album. This is the only way to explain why it's so bad. I thought her Harajuku obsession was to be limited to just the one song, but it goes much farther than that. She name drops Harajuku on just about every damn song, and there's even a song entitled 'Harajuku Girls'.

She even works with Eve and Dr. Dre, getting them into her harajuku fixation. And they're fixated while doing a remake of a song from Fiddler On The Roof.

Dr. Dre. Eve. Gwen Stefani. Working together to channel Tveye.

I seriously think this is going to make my ears bleed. I keep listening hoping it'll grow on me. Like mold. It's like an aural trainwreck.

Walkie Talkie Picture Book

Dammit. I can't watch TV anymore. It's all HP & Apple's fault. They're playing new HP Digital Photography commercials, which use 'Picture Book' by The Kinks as the song. The hook from Picture Book was used by Steriogram for 'Walkie Talkie Man', which Apple used in their iPod commercials.

So now I hear the hook and it makes me run screaming from the room.

Are HP & Apple becoming one company? They're sharing a product now, and using very similar songs in commercials... It's just a matter of time.

What's worse?

What's worse? The fact that I have a gmail, an orkut, and a friendster account?

Or the fact that I forgot I was on friendster until they spammed me?

Firefox, Google, and Huge Ass Digital Maps

The Mozilla Foundation released Firefox 1.0 today with much fanfare. Mozilla's site has been down much of the morning, and other Mozilla related sites, such as their european site are already slowing down to a crawl.

With a article on the front page of the business section of the Boston Globe and a full page ad in the New York Times (and rapidly passing a 10% market share), Firefox is becoming one of the hottest products this year. Unlike the other hot orduct of 2004, Firefox is free.

One of the things I find most interesting is the fact that the Firefox start page, originally the project page, is now a branded version of the Google Homepage. This could be the extent of the GBrowser, the Firefox based browser Google was rumored to be developing.

Google also bought Keyhole, a satellite photography & mapping company that is used by CNN and other major news outlets. Sounds like Google is even going after Microsoft's Terraserver now.

Amplified Shock

If I'd posted a few days ago, I would have posted in anger. I would have used every curse word I knew, and blasted the people who voted for Bush. I would have said things I didn't mean.

I keep hearing people say they're leaving the US. They're heading to Canada or Japan, or various other places. They tell others that America holds no meaning to them and they no longer hold any love for America.

I just can't let go that easily.

I may not have voted for Bush, but I still have faith in America. I still believe in the US.

There is a reason this election hurts more than the 2000 election. There was no real closure after Gore won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote. We spent four years making catty comments about how Dubya wasn't really president, how he was only a pretender to the throne. We made up slogans based on that fact. "Let's Not Elect Him Again" "Re-Defeat Bush in 2004!".

Then he goes and wins the election. And despite some theories about the vote in some states, Bush appears to have won honestly.

That's why it hurts. For the first time in 4 years, Bush can say he's president and no one can argue with him. He won the popular and the electoral votes. No matter which way you count the votes and no matter how many times we demand for pencils and paper and a large box labeled "Ballots", Bush won. The sting we would have felt if the 2000 election had been clear has been amplified by four years of doubt.

Now it's clear, Bush is indeed President of The United States. Does that mean I should pack up my bags? Hell no. Just because your guy didn't win is no reason to make arrangements to rent a duplex in Ontario.

Don't leave. You should be proud of yourselves. George W. Bush was elected by the slimmest margin of popular vote that a sitting president has ever been elected by. Bush and Kerry were neck and neck all through out the night and well into the next day. Record numbers of voters turned out, throwing the system into chaos.

No one was expecting you to actually do your civic duty, America. Be proud. Don't leave. Don't say things in the heat of anger.

There are a few things that all citizens need to do. We need to forgive everyone else because frankly they have done nothing wrong. They stated their opinion, they cast their vote. They did everything you did, except their guy won.

Let's stop pinning blame on people and just try to focus on the fact that everyone tried, in the way they thought best, to make America a better place. Let's try to keep that spirit alive. Let's try to heal that wound we have all been pouring salt into for the last four years.

Stick around, guys. Bush only has 1535 days left before a new president is inaugurated. That's plenty of time to pick up the pieces, get a new guy, & win the next one.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines...

There's less than 200,000 votes between Bush & Kerry in Ohio, even though Fox News is calling it for Bush.

Do we get an Ohio tag on Fark now?

I can't sleep. I just can't. There are still people voting in Ohio. Make the bad men stop.

I'll be sad...

You know what...

I'll be sad if Bush isn't reelected. If he's not in office, who will I have to make fun of? I mean, there's just so many times you can say "John Kerry looks like one of those apple trees from The Wizard Of Oz" before it gets old.

I'm just saying...

Oh my god, Richard Burr is so dreamy...

rbheadshot.gifI got six pieces of mail today.

The L.L. Bean catalogue, something from the bank, a pack of sale papers, and three pieces of political junk mail from the National Association of Realtors PAC.

That's annoying.

But it's more annoying when you realize that for the NARPAC, this is a light day.

I've gotten between 2 and 6 pieces of Junk Mail from them every day (excluding Sunday of course) telling me how Richard Burr makes them cream their jeans. I really think that tomorrow I'll receive a flyer from NARPAC that says:

Richard Burr is dreamy. Richard Burr loves Puppies, long walks on the beach, and cuddling. Bill Clinton hates puppies and Bill Clinton loves Erskine Bowles.

I'm so tired of political ads. Now I'm seeing ads for uncontested seats. Uncontested Seats. Why are we spending millions on ads for a uncontested seats? If you have to spend millions getting the one vote you need to win, how am I supposed to trust you to run the state properly?
