Elijah Wood, Quit Stealing My Schtick!
Dammit, Elijah Wood. Quit. Stealing. My. Schtick.
You can't look like Harry Potter. I look like Harry Potter. It's bad enough I have to look like you, at least according to sources, which I assume are insane. But still... just stop!

Technology Vs Art
I've reached a point in my school career where I'm beginning to wonder if my degree is going to be worth anything and if I will enjoy working in the field in years to come.
The thing is, I have never considered myself a techie. I love to create websites, but I consider the coding of PHP, of databases, that sort of thing to merely be a necessary evil. I don't learn those things because I want to, but because I have to.
I love my IT courses. I love the people I've met through them.
But I think I love "design" more.
There lies the problem, much like that thing covered in foil at the back of the fridge. And much like the stuff in foil at the back of the fridge, I'm determined to poke at it with that chopstick that lost its mate until I figure out what it is.
What it boils down to is that basically I think I'm an ok coder, an ok 'designer', and an ok writer. I don't think I'm spectacular at any of them. But... they're all I got. I want to use them. I love all three... but can I do any of them well enough to... you know... survive by doing them?
It's really coming down to the wire. I'll be done with my associate's degree in about a year and I have to move on somehow. Do I continue at CPCC or move to a four-year university? And if I do move to a four-year... what the hell do I study!
UNC Chapel Hill has a great IT program. NC State has a great Graphic Design program.
I think I'd be the worst student in both of them.
Maybe I'm only cut out to ring up groceries for the rest of my life.

Some poor suckers...
One of my favorite books was apparently reprinted finally in 2003 and is available on Amazon.com. Around The World With Auntie Mame is the sequel to Auntie Mame (An Irreverant Escapade) (the one the movie is based on) and is, quite frankly, much funnier than the first book.
Luckily for me, I already have a copy, an original from 1958. Now if I just had the dust jacket...

Blogathon Worries II
well... it looks like that once I sent a link to my design for this year's blogathon to the organizers, suddenly it went from 'Some' of my work to 'None' of my work. That's apparently what you get when you ask for credit for your work.
For the record this is my version of the site that will eventually appear here.
I'm probably not going to take part this year, seeing as they have moved the date back twice already, and the new date puts it into the new school year. I think they're going to find they are going to have a problem getting people involved because of this.

Blogathon Worries
Have you ever worked hard on something, only to have someone improve it? I did a layout for Blogathon.org that I thought was really good. Too bad that the person who was in charge of Blogathon at the time thought she could improve upon it.
Why am I worried? Because I just contacted someone from the Blogathon mailing list who informed me that the person who helped with that layout is now designing a blogathon layout using 'elements' of my design.
I have the strangest feeling that she will either ruin my layout and give me credit, or leave it unchanged and not link to me at all.
Either is bad.

Pounding Your Pudding

I know product endorsement is important. But I also know I have a dirty mind. I don't care what kind of diet I am on, I don't think I could bring myself to eat Sylvester Stallone's Protein Pudding.

it was just like a house afire
Noticed some downtime at Malbela lately? Yeah... so have I.
It seems the server that Malbela is located on has a tendency to overheat and suffer failed hard drives. Keep in mind that this is the same server that has previously burst into flames dramatically.
Malbela.Com and any sites that are hosted by us will be down for about 4 to 8 hours some time tonight. Hopefully there will be no problems!

not the way that I want it...
You know, sometimes it doesn't pay to get up in the morning. Mary Kate knows my pain. She may be pissed, but she looks so much better than she has lately.
Surprisingly though, I have been having a good couple of weeks. (Can't speak for the young Miss Olsen however.) I'm finally settling into my job at the store, just in time for them to think of switching me to a new department. I'm just too good at everything for my own good.
And I'm modest too.
It's been awhile since I've worked, over 3 years actually. After my surgery, then came the Deep Vein Thrombosis (which would make a great name for a indie rock band). After that, I moped around the house until one day I decided to go back to school.
Now, after two years of school and the age of 27, I've suddenly got the desire to be able to buy a hamburger without asking for my allowance.
The problem is that there isn't a guide on what to do. You can't google "+how +to act +like +a grownup" and expect to actually learn how to do it. There's no 'Adulthood For Dummies'.
I feel like I should be over this. I should be in the middle of a career. I should have had at least two failed relationships. I should have written my first book by now.
I should own appliances other than my blender.
I'm not depressed, mind you. I'm actually feeling good. I'm excited.
I just have no idea where to start.

Is it a foot long?

I've just always had trouble talking about Watergate without giggling. It's hard to have serious discussions about political scandal when you immediately think of Linda Lovelace. Even creepier that 'Deep Throat' is 91.
Side note about the IMDB... The Deep Throat entry is hard to find, but Linda's 1969 film... umm... "Dog Fucker" comes up pretty easy. It's a simple film, summed up in its title. One commenter on IMDB stated that the dog was the better performer.
In other news, Google found Carmen Sandiego, thus taking the fun out of fourth grade.
